October 2009

No stitching update today just a clarification for Heather! She commented on my last post that since I was going to Princessa and the Pea in October that must mean that I wouldn't be at ASG in Hilton Head. Heck, no!!! Of course I'll be at ASG - I wouldn't miss it for the world. Actually there are several of us (Jackie included) that will be in Modesto the weekend of October 16 - 18 and will be in Hilton Head the weekend of October 23 - 25!! I'll see you there!!

Millifiori

Hi everyone -

You probably thought you wouldn't hear from me for a while. I've been busy though, doing some finishing. This is Millifiori, a class from Jackie DuPlessis of It's Fineally Finished. The class was held in April, sponsored by Lois at Elegant Stitch in Modesto! It was a fabulous weekend!! The project is so pretty!! The silk fibers, ribbon, and fabric are just lucious!!!

In class we concentrated on lining the basket. The directions to do it were excellent and even someone as "sewing machine phobic" as I am was able to come home with a lined basket. The stitching consisted of the Lady's Companion, a pincushion and a thimble-doodle that is hanging on the handle of the basket. Here's the entire set:

Here's a pic of the inside of the Lady's Companion. The hardest part of the assembly (in my opinion!) was the silk lined side and getting the indentations in there neatly. Mine isn't perfect, but it's mine, so it's okay!

Here's the bottom of the Companion - don't you just love the "feet" - the beads are just gorgeous!! Check out the one on the fob too!!

Here's a pic of the gifts that we received in class! Aren't they wonderful??!! They are sitting on a lap desk that Lois made for each of us. The fabric is just scrumptious and it worked perfectly for keeping track of my beads as I was attaching 3 beads to each of the silk ribbons on the scissor fob (I still can't believe I did that, but I did!!!)!!

If you ever get a chance to go out for one of Lois' weekends, I definitely recommend it!! It is such a great time!! In fact, I enjoyed Millifiori so much that I am going back for Princessa & the Pea in October!!

Happy Stitching!

Birds of a Feather...

I mentioned in an earlier post that I had been to a stitching event in Albany, NY. A wonderful lady and friend, Mary, hosted a group of about 13 of us at her home in Clifton Park for a 2 day class with Jackie DuPlessis of It's Fineally Finished.

Several of the ladies that were there took part in an exchange. We were assigned a name and then we were to stitch and finish the "Birds of a Feather" design from Thea Dueck of Victoria Sampler. It was in the October 2008 issue of The Gift of Stitching. The stitching supplies we used and the finishing was entirely up to us. The only "requirement" is that we stitch the entire design, include the names or initials of all of the ladies in the exchange, and include the verse "Well behaved women rarely make history"!!

Here's some pics of the piece that I stitched and finished for Debra. I split the design into 2 parts and made a trifold using the extra verse & names for the inside panel.

Here it is all folded up with the first half of the design for the front:

Here's all 3 panels. The second part of the design is the back and then the verse with all of our first names make up the inside panel. On the names, I didn't even shorten "Stephanie" to "Steph" even though I really, really wanted to!!!

You can see part of the doctor's flannel I included in the center and there are more thread rings behind the verse/name panel.

In return, I received a beautiful sewing roll from Cyndi. She did and amazing job on both the stitching and the finishing and I absolutely love it. Cyndi worked the initials in as a pocket for my needles (and included a pack) and the verse became a needlebook. I forgot to snap a pic of the little embellished pin that Cyndi also made and included for me. The lining is such a pretty shade of blue - so very pretty!! Thanks so much Cyndi! I am just tickled pink with the sewing roll!!

Have a great weekend! Thanks for visiting!

Cradleboard Accessories

Hi everyone -

One of the ladies on a Yuku board that I frequent, asked to see closeup of the accessories from the Native American Cradleboard Etui. Here they are!

Here are closeups of the pouch and the needlebook. If you click to enlarge the pics, you can see the buttonhole edge on the needlebook. It wasn't hard to do at all, once I knew what I was doing!! :) By the way, this side of the pouch says "May you walk in beauty".

Thanks for stopping by!

Gifts

In my absence from blogging, I really have been busy stitching. Not all of my stitching friends got stitched gifts for their birthdays but a few did.

The first set was for my dear friend Dixie who celebrated a big birthday this year. Eleven of us surprised her by showing up in Houston, Texas in February. We had dinner followed by an entire day of stitching, chatting, laughing, shopping, and of course eating! It was wonderful. Here's the set that she received. It was designed by Ellen Chester of With My Needle. I used 32 ct Lambswool and WDW in Purple Majesty.

After Dixie, came Stephanie. Her birthday was in April and this Flower and Bird Sewing Roll from Chessie & Me made it's way from Baltimore to Wisconsin for her special day!

At the beginning of July, this was sent to Tedra in Arizona. Her birthday is July 2 and she loves cats. I thought this was very appropriate. It's another design from Chessie & Me, their freebie "Flag Over Chessie"! The freebie actually calls for stitched stars. This however was the chart of the month from The Stitching Post for July and they kitted it with the JABC star buttons. I like them alot!!

I am sure as the year progresses, there will be more stitched birthday gifts to show - stay tuned!

Semi-annual update??

Hi everyone -

Here it is July 2009 and time for my semi-annual update! As much as I try to keep up with blogging, I just can't seem to make it work. In my defense, the first part of the year was very busy with stitching trips to Williamsburg, Modesto, Nashua, Scottsdale, and Albany!!

I do actually have some stitching to show from the first part of the year. Over the next couple of weeks I'll try to do that but I did want to share one pic now! This is the project from ASG in Scottsdale, Arizona. It was a pre-stitching class with finishing over the weekend we were in Arizona. In class I finished the cradleboard and this past week finished the rest of the pieces!

Rae and Ron made the bear thread keep and the wooden cradleboard. The bowl was commissioned to be made by a Native American woman in the area. We received these in lieu of totebags!! Aren't they wonderful??!! Rae also made lucets for all of us. I didn't put it in the pic since I chose not to make lucet cord. I couldn't get it as even as I wanted so I used Petite Velvet for the cording on the cradleboard and the pouch and made twisted cording for the quiver. The front of the needlebook is embellished with buttonhole loops. It is quite different and quite pretty! Well worth all of the discussion and clipping that went on among the group to get them in correctly!!!

The entire weekend was wonderful and there were quite a few finished cradleboards leaving Scottsdale by Saturday evening. I am already wondering what Rae will have for us next year since I have already reserved my chair for ASG 2010!!

Back soon...thanks for visiting...

Is it "finished" or is it still a "WIP"??!!

Hi Everyone -

This is "Happy Holidays" from Val's Stitchin' Stuff. It took 2 nights to stitch. The cap is stitched in WDW "Confetti" which is just a totally fun color!! Would this win a prize at Woodlawn? Of course not!! It was just something quick and fun to stitch and every once in a while you need that - at least I do!!

Now the question is, "Is it "finished" or is it still a "WIP"?? It's stitched but it isn't an ornament yet...so in my mind it isn't "finished" and can't go on my "2009 Finishes" quite yet. It needs to be "finished" finished, doesn't it??!! Hopefully it will be on my "2009 Finishes" list very, very soon!!! :)
